| Gentlemen
in brightly striped blazers, well dressed ladies, champagne, good
food and the thrill of watching the best oarsmen and women skimming
gracefully across the surface of the Thames on a summer’s
day. The time, the first week in July; the place, Henley on Thames;
the event, the Royal Regatta. Henley still retains the air of
an Edwardian garden party and the presence of a member of the
Royal Family makes it even more special. Arriving in your chauffeur
driven luxury car or, if you are organising a party a Mercedes
Viano S Class, is the perfect compliment to the event. In addition,
the provision of a sumptuous picnic hamper to you personal requirements
will make the day one to remember.
The Regatta started as a one-off event in 1839 and over the years
has grown in popularity. Temple Island and Fawley Meadows are
the prime areas. It’s worth noting that should you be heading
for the Stewards Enclosure or some of the private clubs along
the river then certain dress codes apply for both men and women.
To quote the rules, ‘for men’ lounge suit, blazer
and flannel or evening dress and a tie. Women are required to
wear a dress or skirt that covers their knees and are ‘encouraged
to wear a hat’. Anyone not suitably dressed can be refused
entry, no matter what their prestige in rowing or elsewhere. Mobile
phone use is prohibited.’
But despite the strict enforcement of these rules or indeed because
of their enforcement Henley is a glorious event. With the combination
of your liveried chauffeur, luxury car and a sumptuous picnic
hamper tailored to your personal requirements, what better way
to spend an English summer’s day than watching a truly elegant
sport in good company?
